ciara barker

Ciara Barker graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design in 2017 with a first class honours in fine art ‘Printmaking and Contemporary Practice’. As a multidisciplinary artist, Barker continues to practice in Limerick City working mostly with light and light interactive materials to explore both personal and social experiences of the body and the other. She is interested in intuitive spaces that disengage from stable attachment through movement and distortion. She uses colour and light to manipulate visual perception, encouraging the viewer to become comfortable with the unfamiliar. Her overarching hope is to present her work as a frame in which to observe and question how we interact with each other and our physical surroundings.

Barker is currently an Artist-in-Residence at Ormston House, Cultural Resource Centre in Limerick city. She was the recipient of the twelve month Cork Printmakers’ emerging artist bursary award 2017 and is also a current member of Limerick Printmakers. She simultaneously continues to develop her practice at ‘spacecraft’ Artists’ Studios, an organisation of which she is a co-founder and current director.
